Paddling Lessons for Canoes and Kayaks

Basic Kayak Course at Lake Rico

 This introduction to flat water paddling for the entire family, emphasizing safety, basic strokes, maneuvers and equipment is ideal for the recreational paddler interested in exploring protected lake and river environments only.

Pool Time for Kayaking

Sign up for time to work on your paddling techniques and rolls on your own during the winter.

Rolling Clinic  2004 Pool classes (Three - 2 hr. classes)

Let our experienced American Canoe Association Certified Instructors show you the steps to learning a successful Eskimo roll. This course is suited for people who are comfortable with the fundamentals of kayaking and want to learn a new skill to help boost their confidence and enhance their boat control.

Intermediate Kayak Clinic ( 6 Hrs.)

This popular Intermediate Flat water course provides a safe and fun introduction to the sport of sea kayaking. We begin with an introduction to water safety, kayak design, related equipment and clothing. After suiting up in our sprayskirts and P.F.D’s (Life jackets), it’s time to practice wet exits and various self and assisted capsize recovery techniques in beautiful, crystal clear Lake Rico. Next are strokes…… Your American Canoe Association Certified Instructor will present a progression of paddling strokes teaching you how to maneuver your kayak with skill and efficiency.

Private Lessons: One Person $50/hr., 2 People, $70/hr., 3 People, $90/hr.,  4 People, $110/hr.
Special rates are available for Scouts, Church, School, camps, and non-profit groups.  

Basic Rescue Clinic  

Improve your rescue techniques with our comprehensive rescue clinic. Topics include paddle float rescue, T rescue, boat assisted rescues and sling entry.

Price : $75.00

Advanced Rescue Clinic    

Learn more advanced rescues such as the entry and roll with paddle float, all in double rescue, curl rescue, and towing rescue.

Combined rescue class

This class combines the basic and advances rescue classes in one session.

Price: $120.00

Dates: Sundays 10:00 am to 3:00pm. Other dates available by reservation.

Advanced Open Water Kayak Clinic (7 hrs)

Our new Advanced Open Water Course goes beyond the basics and is designed to prepare paddlers to comfortably and safely paddle on open water marine environments. Students will be oriented with basic chart reading and on water navigation skills, open water rescues, advanced paddling strokes and maneuvers, and efficient paddling technique. Students will have the opportunity to paddle short crossings, apply on-water navigational techniques, discuss safety concerns related to the open water environment.

AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION

  • Flat Water Instructor Certification

3 days. Offered for people who teach others to paddle, guide trips, or wish to improve their knowledge and skills in canoes or kayaks. This class covers teaching and paddling theory and technique. An intensive hands on course that will improve your skills and make you look at paddling through new eyes.

Cost: $300.00 plus ACA membership fees.
