water in the area of the Berkley Bridge. We observe the
changes in vegetation that occur along this scenic stretch
of the Taunton River, as we continue to our destination,
Dighton Rock State Park (or the Weir). While at Dighton

historical rock with inscriptions dating back to 1511 and
learn about the different theories as to who made these
carvings. Trip length is about 3 to 4 hrs.

Taunton
River Fall Foliage Trips
The ecology of the Taunton River makes it by far the most
beautiful river to view the fall foliage anywhere. The numerous
types of trees mixed with the golden brush, create a colorful
pallet second to none. Many maples reach out over the river,
their brilliant foliage reflecting in the water. Half a
dozen species of oaks are here, too, including several gigantic
swamp white oaks. There are groves of beeches, birches,
pines, and hemlocks, and a great many hickory and walnut
trees. The free nuts are another bonus on fall trips. Fall
is the time for seeing the relatively rare tupelo or blackgum
tree also, for then its leaves turn a fiery scarlet. So
make your reservations early because these trips are so
popular, they fill up fast.

Shell Fish Kayak Tour
Gathering
shellfish is a great activity and a really good family
outing. Combining kayaking with shell fishing makes it
even better. With a kayak you can reach great locations
you cannot reach from public access points along the shore.
Narragansett Bay provides an abundance of this bounty of
the sea. Quahogs (Rhode Island's official shell fish),
Soft Shell clams, Oysters, Blue Mussels, Scallops, and
Blue Crabs are one of our greatest renewable resources
if we act responsibly and with care for our environment.
Our experienced guides will provide you with safety and
paddling instructions prior to your trip. Also included
will be instructions on the best methods of shell fishing
and a copy of Grandma Brierly's famous Rhode Island Clam
Chowder recipe.
